Whirlwind tour of Munchen

1 Jun

We made it into Munich last night at about 11 pm. Tried to get on the internet, but it wasn’t working at our hostel. We went to bed to prepare for what turned out to be a very, very long day.

Got up for breakfast at about 9. Tried to get internet again, but no luck. So these last couple of posts are a bit late. Anyway, at 11 we went on a free tour. This was the most knowledgeable tour guide we’ve had. A tad bit arrogant, but he did an excellent job getting us used to the city. He took us out for beer and bratwurst for lunch, which was delicious. We learned all about how Bavarian is NOT German. All of Germany is very different, and Munich is essentially the opposite of Berlin. Munich is full of old, rich, Catholic, conservative people. It is the most policed city in Germany. Bavaria is the only state to never sign the German constitution. It’s also where the Nazi party originated (the first meeting actually occurred in the beloved Hafbrauhaus). Random facts.

I am so tired because we hung out with our tour guide until about 6 pm. He took us to the English Gardens which are beautiful. Then back to the Chinese Garden for beer and pretzels. A good day, but I’m so tired. Now we’re on the train to Stuttgart.

Munich is beautiful, but I think I prefer the more liberal Berlin. Anyway, here are some pictures from today. I’m going to be lazy with the captions because I’m so brain dead after listening to the same person talk for 7 hours.
